At 55 degrees south, Puerto Williams on Chile's Navarino Island is the world's southernmost town. Silversea's first land-based hotel opened to its first guests there on October 19, 2026. It is a quiet place between forest and the Beagle Channel, and it is the starting point for a trip to Antarctica. (The Inside Circle)

Can anyone book The Cormorant at 55 South?

Quick answer

It depends on your trip. As of October 26, 2026, the hotel is reserved for guests on Silversea's Antarctica fly-cruises and can't be booked on its own (InsideFlyer). Every fly-cruise this season includes a stay there, and Silversea runs 29 fly-cruises through March (Seatrade Cruise News). If you want Patagonia without Antarctica, a mainland lodge is a better fit. See our Patagonia wellness guide.

What is the hotel like?

It has 150 rooms, each looking out at the Beagle Channel or the Tierra del Fuego forest. The interiors use warm wood and pieces handmade by Chilean artisans. There is a central Fireplace Lounge, and the hotel is open seasonally, October through March (The Inside Circle; hotel site). InsideFlyer also lists a gym open around the clock (InsideFlyer).

What can you do in nature around Puerto Williams?

That depends on your pace. The hotel lists hikes, nature walks and kayaking in the Patagonian wilderness (hotel site). Silversea's expedition guides rotate through the hotel to lead kayaking on the Beagle Channel and hikes on Navarino Island, and a Patagonian baqueano wilderness guide leads the horseback excursions (Seatrade Cruise News). Birdwatching is listed too (InsideFlyer).

Is the food high vibe?

Partly. High vibe food: Latitude 55 is built around Chilean ingredients and serves family-style meals all day, and Bar Sur serves regional hot chocolate and cocktails made with Chilean ingredients (The Inside Circle; InsideFlyer). We found no mention of organic, plant-forward menus or fresh juices. A High Vibe Vacay advisor can ask for gluten-, dairy- and egg-free meals before you sail.

How does the fly-cruise work?

A Silversea charter flies you from Santiago to Puerto Williams. You spend a night at the hotel, then fly to Antarctica and board the ship, skipping the Drake Passage crossing on fly-cruise routes (InsideFlyer). The hotel's grand opening is set for November 5, 2026; guests on earlier voyages get a preview (Seatrade Cruise News).
