Maui gives a wellness trip three settings in one island: the sunny south-shore beaches of Wailea, the upcountry slopes, and the summit of Haleakalā at 10,023 feet. Lānaʻi, the quiet island next door, adds two resorts built for rest.

Where should you stay on Maui for a wellness trip?

Quick answer

It depends on whether you want the beach out your door. Wailea, on the south shore, is the easy, sunny base with calm morning water. If you prefer a quieter, adults-only feel, Hotel Wailea sits in the hills above the beaches. For a deeper reset, add two or three nights on Lānaʻi.

Do you need a reservation for sunrise at Haleakalā?

Yes, for sunrise. The National Park Service requires a reservation for each vehicle entering the summit district for sunrise, released in advance on Recreation.gov, plus the park entrance fee. It is cold at the summit before dawn, so bring layers. Sunset does not need the sunrise reservation.

How do you get from Maui to Lānaʻi?

It depends on how you feel about boats. A passenger ferry runs between Lāhainā-area harbors and Mānele Bay, and there are short flights to Lānaʻi via Honolulu. Allie can check current schedules for your dates.
