I first wrote this guide in November 2023 as a list of retreats for 2024. Those dates have passed, so I rewrote it around a better question: how do you find the right meditation retreat in California for you? Everything below was checked on the places' own websites on October 24, 2026.

How do I find a meditation retreat in California?

Quick answer

It depends on how much structure and silence you want. For a teacher-led silent retreat, start with a dedicated meditation center and read its calendar. For a workshop mixed with nature, hot water and good food, look at a retreat campus. For a gentler start on your own schedule, a resort with daily meditation classes may suit you better. Dates, costs and what's included change often, so check each program's own page before you plan around it.

What kind of meditation retreat is right for me?

It depends on your experience and how much quiet you want. Silent residential retreats ask you to stay on site, keep noble silence and follow a daily schedule; they suit people who already sit regularly or are ready to try. Guided workshops mix teaching, practice and free time. Resort classes are drop-in, so you can try one session and spend the rest of the day outside. If you're new, a shorter guided program is a kind place to begin.

Which California centers run multi-day meditation retreats?

It depends on the setting you want. These three publish their own retreat or program calendars, checked October 24, 2026. We list them because they are real, established places, not because we book them.

Can I meditate at a resort instead of a retreat center?

It depends on how much of a program you want. Some resorts list meditation among guest classes, so you can practice in the morning and keep the rest of the day free. As of October 24, 2026, Ojai Valley Inn lists daily Mind & Body classes that include meditation, and Rancho Valencia's October 2026 Yoga Pavilion schedule includes yoga and meditation sessions. On High Vibe Vacay, Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur lists outdoor meditation among its daily resort activities.

Which of the six values does a meditation retreat touch?

It depends on the place, but a good retreat often brings in Connection with Nature, Conscious Movement and Inspires Awe and Wonder. We score stays on six values using public sources: Connection with Nature, Vibrant Food, Local and Sustainable, Conscious Movement, Inspires Awe and Wonder, and Clean Energy. "High vibe," for us, means those six values plus presence and beauty. It's how we choose places, not a promise of how a trip will feel.

How does High Vibe Vacay check the food?

It depends on the kitchen. Our standard is gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free friendly: we look for kitchens that say on their own pages they cook for special diets, and we always suggest telling the retreat or hotel ahead of time. Retreat centers often serve set menus, so ask before you book. We never promise a kitchen can meet every need.
